Recent Project: The Zane Residence in La Jolla
When long time friends and clients Jan and Barry Zane relocated to La Jolla from their home in Boston, Peter and I were thrilled. Not only were our good friends from the Boston area moving closer to us, but it would also provide an opportunity for Peter and Jan to collaborate on yet another kitchen project. Peter loved working on Jan and Barry’s kitchen in Acton, Massachusetts, while also providing design assistance. Peter and Jan were like a two-person design team, getting into mischief at the Boston Design Center and shopping throughout greater Boston to create a beautiful space. A few years later, when Peter and I moved to Los Angeles, Jan and Barry asked Peter to work across the miles to design the kitchen in their new home in Wayland, Mass. and Peter was excited and honored to do so.
Imagine our disappointment when the home they bought in La Jolla did not need a new kitchen or baths! No big deal ultimately, since we knew that the time would come when Jan and Barry would move on. And move on they did! As you can see from the attached article in San Diego Home and Garden Lifestyles magazine, they built a glorious home in the Village of La Jolla with the capable team from Design Build Partners. Peter and Kelly took on the project, working once again with Jan to design the kitchen, four bathrooms and the laundry room. For the kitchen, we used the popular Nouveau door by Bentwood Luxury Kitchens, but we chose walnut, a new species for this door style that Peter always felt Bentwood should use for this unique door. Peter designed the dishware furniture hutch with custom glass inserts from Pulp Studio in Los Angeles to provide function and beauty and designed the end panels for the islands to further enhance the Asian aesthetic. Jan chose the Kohler Karbon faucet for its practicality and stunning looks, and chose a sleek Gaggenau appliance package which we could beautifully fully integrate into the space. Peter also collaborated with Jan’s interior designer, Helene Ziman, as she selected and designed beautiful furniture and textures for the space, all in keeping with Jan’s color palette and furnishings to complement the Asian inspired house.
We were proud to be a part of this project and look forward to many visits to this glorious home, with its sweeping views of the Village and Ocean, and its ever-flowing wine bottles! Thanks Barry and Jan for your friendship and this great opportunity!
